Overview

Emergency and exit lighting are critical life safety systems that provide illuminated egress paths during power loss or emergency conditions. Sophos Fire Systems provides comprehensive inspection, testing, and maintenance for all types of emergency lighting and exit signs to help ensure occupants can evacuate safely and facilities remain code compliant.

Our technicians service all major manufacturers and lighting types, including battery-backed exit signs, LED egress fixtures, combination units, remote heads, and inverter/central emergency lighting systems.

Inspection, Testing & Maintenance

Monthly/Quarterly Inspections

• Visual inspection of exit signs and emergency lighting fixtures for damage, obstruction, and proper placement
• Activation of monthly functional test to verify illumination (including remote heads where applicable)
• Indicator light/status verification on battery-backed units
• Lens and housing condition check (cracks, discoloration, missing covers)
• Mounting and hardware verification

Annual Testing

• Full-duration functional test (as required) to verify sustained illumination
• Battery load performance verification (where applicable)
• Charging circuit/transfer operation verification for battery units
• Inspection of inverter/central systems (if present): transfer, annunciation, and output verification
• Light output/coverage check to confirm egress path visibility

Common Deficiencies

• Burned out LEDs/lamps or dim illumination
• Failed or weak batteries and/or charging circuits
• Damaged housings, cracked lenses, or missing covers
• Obstructed exit signs or blocked emergency light coverage
• Missing, improperly located, or non-functional fixtures
• Incorrect arrow direction/chevrons or signage not visible from the egress path
